Some babies handle solids better and the reflux improves because the solids are thicker than milk and less likely to come up, some babies however can actually get worse on solids. Most babies with GERD do improve at least somewhat after 6 months, but mainly due to their sphincter muscle maturing as another poster mentioned.

With my son, he did improve with having cereal in his bottle to thicken his milk, along with taking Prevacid. He became a much different baby and stopped refluxing his milk as much. I didn't notice much of a difference with solids, however I do remember him going back through a slight setback when he started sitting up, the doctor mentioned it was probably due to the increased pressure on his tummy. Once he started sitting up better and more regularly and was on thicker solids, we saw an even better improvement. In fact, I don't think we have heard him reflux in a couple months. We are even hoping that he can go off of Prevacid starting next month!

My daughter is 6months and she was diagnosed with acid reflex since she was 7wks old. And what I’ve found is that when I did start her on solids like cereal, she kept that down with out any problems. And I know most people tell you to wait but I started her on cereal when she was 31/2 months old. And what I did was give her about 2tbls of single grain cereal with about 1oz of pear juice and mix it in together good so that it's not too thick or to thin but just enough for them to eat it. And then I would feed her that and wait about 20 min or 30 for the cereal to settle before giving her a 4oz bottle.
But after doing some research on my own I have found that if you add cereal to their bottle it will help keep their formula down. As long as your lil guy can keep a solid down like cereal then I think some cereal in a bottle might work to help him keep it down.
Also another finding that I found to help was that after a feeding keep them upright if you can for at least 20 to 30 min. Like have him recline on something that wont be putting pressure on his stomach and that will help him digest the food better.
And as far as formula goes good luck, we had to switch our daughter 3 times before we found one that works. We use nestle goodstart easy to digest formula. It seems to work good with her and when adding cereal into it, it doesn't make it too thick to drink.
Good luck.
Oh and I know some people will disagree with the cereal in bottle but it's up to you and what you want to try.
And another thing that helps too is we giver our daughter Axcid, twice a day. Your DR. has to prescribe it and so next visit ask him about it if he hasn’t put your son on any meds yet.

it may help some, but i think it also is related to their maturing sphincter...
and i think the solids set better on their tummy and are harder to come back up, although my dd does still have some reflux at a year, but she had it really bad as a baby...

its suppose to subside after 6 months...not the case for my lil one, it has "calmed" down a little bit, but much like the other answer, where ever she goes on the floor there is a circle of puke on the floor trailing behind her lol. She was told to put cereal in bottle, givien Zantac, nothing worked. So has been off the cereal in bottle since 2 months and off the Zantac since 4.5 months, because it was just pointless, and now that she is over 6 months the doc doesnt want her on zantac anymore anyway, sorry there isnt much you can do, but as long as baby is gaining weight, then hes just going to be a "happy spitter"

I thought that starting solids would help, and I guess it did some. But my son still spits up and in a way I think it is worse because now it is food and not just milk. My son is army crawling around and it occurs quite often. I am hoping by the time he turns one he will be walking and not spitting up as much.
Sorry this isn't much help and probably not the answer you wanted - but it is the truth or my truth.
